‘The Era, 10 April 1918, reviewed Rations, a revuette in six scenes by Bert Lee and R. P. Weston, produced at the Colchester Hippodrome on 1 April. ‘Mr. Fred Karno has produced something entirely new in this revuette bearing upon present-day food problems, and it was keenly appreciated by the large audience attending the Hippodrome, Colchester, last week. Opening with a butcher’s queue, in which Robb Wilton, as the butcher, is particularly funny, the show includes the raiding of Lady Hoardley’s mansion for reasons only too apparent, and concludes with a Tank Day. Robb Wilton’s portrayal is a very humorous one, and he is excellently supported throughout by Tommy Hudson. Several attractive numbers in the piece deserve mention, particularly “Keep It Dark,” “Wear Less Clothes,” and “Sunlight Sue,” the latter being a great favourite as rendered by Miss Betty Browne. The setting is good, the Park scene and Tank Day being especially so, and the orchestra is under the capable baton of Mr. Alfred Austin’.
