Advertisement: ‘Back From Overseas produced Whit week at Dewsbury, scored an instantaneous success, which has been repeated without abatement at Halifax, Huddersfield and Bury. Last week all dramatic records for the last two years and a half well beaten. Receipts far in advance of some first-class revues. Saturday night nearly £10 above pantomime. Ovations nightly. Manager H. R. Lynn delighted. Press and public unanimous in praise. One leading journal: - “Undoubtedly the most gripping drama we have had in Nuneaton.” Another: - “The dialogue is bright and crisp, the plot is exciting without being nauseous, and the acting first-class.”’. ‘Mrs. Kimberley and Frank Liston will present at the Hippodrome next week the topical skit revue, “How do you like it?” written by Mrs Kimberley. Several of the latter’s plays have been presented at the Hippodrome within recent times, but this is the first time, we believe, that a revue has been witnessed from her at Nuneaton. The caste includes Ruby Kimberley, Tom H. Solly, Adeline Raby, Ruby Bradford, Five Weetmans (speciality dancers), and a host of others’. Midland Counties Tribune, 9 August 1918.

‘A variety program will be put on the boards at the Hippodrome next week. Cissie Langley and Co. will present “Nurse and Martyr,” said to be one of the best sketches touring. Edgar Curtis, the Manikin man, with his miniature theatre, from the London Coliseum. should also prove a strong attraction. Griffiths and Clair will appear in a noval [sic] comedy act, “The Persistent Suitor,” and the Six Drummer Girls will give a vocal, dancing and military scena turn, while Frank Merry, elite entertainer; the Haywoods, concertina performers; and Ancaster(?), inebriated comedy juggler, will also give items. On Friday night a special performance for adults only, “The Tainted Woman,” a dramatic episode, dealing with the hidden plague, will be given’. Midland Counties Tribune, 16 August 1918.
