Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is quite a refreshing production. It has hardly any of the ordinary inanities of 'revue' and replace them with little scenes of simple but genuine interest. It starts with a comic business of the 'knocker up' having forgotten to call the cast and calling them like mill hands from their houses then we have an angry father refusing to let his daughter and wife explain something. Then any plot there is leaves off and the rest is a series of scenes illustrating Lancashire life, and heroic action in a mine, a mother mourning for her soldier son and comforted by the nobility of the cause, a cotton plantation and so on. One or two comic scenes are added such as a judging committee behind a screen mistaking a carpenter's noise for a singing competition. There are several sentimental and innocent songs and from first to last nothing whatever to object to. Recommended for license. G. S. Street
