Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

The fun of this piece is at the expense of special constables. That invaluable force is, of course inevitably food for chaff and this, though vulgar in places, is not beyond the limits. The first scene is at a police station where a very small man, Tittlemouse, is enrolled. There is here a rather unfair joke of a sergeant allowing a 'gentleman' special to smoke and forbidding a workman (p.2) but it is too insignificant to matter. In scene II Tittlemouse guards a bridge and has comic interludes with various people. A German spy, disguised as an actor, and his female accomplice try to blow up the bridge and Tittlemouse heroically saves it. Blowing up bridges is rather a serious matter for music hall fun, but there Is no harm intended in this, and the piece is, Recommended for license. G. S. Street. Ps A baby plays a part in the piece, presumably a dummy.
