Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

An average pantomime, with the outline of the story preserved and the rest jokes and puns. The Widow Twankey, the comic emperor, comic policemen and so forth duly play their parts, and the palace is faded away and brought back again. Some slight novelty is introduced by the characters being brought to London and by the use of wireless telegrams. It is rather stupid and harmless, with but few topical allusions. On pp.59, 60, and 64, in the London scene, there is a mention of guns, explosions and flashlights, a zeppelin raid being supposed to be going on. There is no harm in this, but care must be taken that the explosions are not loud enough to alarm the audience or people outside ether theatre. A caution to this effect might be given. Songs not given must be sent if unpublished. Recommended for license. G. S. Street. Postscript, titles of songs have been sent in all published.
