Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

An amusing skit on the inefficiency of some of the ladies how undertake unsuitable work to set free men for service. The Duchess of Eastbourne arrives with a pail and a ladder to clean the windows of her friend lady Frome, having been sent by the window cleaning company. She makes a horrid mess of the thing, upsetting the pail over the carpet, etc. amid the caustic comments of her friend and her maid. Finally she upsets the pail out of the window on to a man and insists on taking him out to luncheon in return, leaving the maid to clean the windows. Even patriotism may have occasionally its absurd side and I do not understand this little sketch to be laughing at the real thing: it is quite good natured.
