Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

A familiar and harmless pantomime, setting for the such story as there is to tell about tom the piper's son, concerning whom nursery legend confines itself to the statement that he 'stole a pig and away he ran'. The stealing of the pig is here glorified into a kindly trick, carried out for the purpose of confounding villainy. Tom is provided with the harmless necessary sweetheart in the daughter of a crusty baron, whose heart has to be softened by a fairy, and also by his experiences in a shipwreck from which the heroine is saved by the hero. The dialogue is spiced with many local allusions which, like the context, are wholly innocent but the word of the songs if not already published, must be forwarded for approval.
