Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

A stirring little play of the war. Loisa, famous Russian dancer is living with her little daughter in a villa high up at Compiegne. She is warned to keep the curtains drawn that the light may not be a guide to the Boches. There is a pretty scene of the little girl rehearsing a song and going to bed. Then Prince Wladimir, Loisa's lover, comes and desires her to dance for him while he turns the 'projector' - the limelight - on her also he is going to open the curtains and window when she explains it is forbidden. He insists more and more vehemently and then it turns out that his family has been German for generations and that he himself is a German spy and has arranged to signal from the window. They have a struggle and during it the little girl, unseen by the spy gets out of the window and manages to give an alarm and just as Wladimir is going to tie Loisa up an old man-servant comes in and shoots him. It is pleasant to have a Grand Guignol play that is neither disgusting nor impossible. Recommended for license. G. S. Street.
