Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This little piece is , by a somewhat unusual arrangement, adapted form the English of Mr Alfred Sutro. It deals, in a vein of light cynicism, with the problem of husband wife and lover, and illustrates the self-deception of the first - a dramatic critic were of the unrealities of the familiar stage-triangle - who leaves the second and third to their game of cards while he goes off to his work at the theatre. The 'game' turns out to be a stormy one, as the lover takes this occasion to announce his approaching marriage and his intention of breaking off the liaison. The unexpected return of the husband - as the premiere has had to be postponed - leads to a momentarily serious turn of the situation which, however, in the end is dismissed as lightly as it was opened. A neat effective and harmless outcome of the entente cordial, as displayed in Anglo-French humour. Recommended for License. Ernest A. Bendall.
