The Forty Thieves
Examiner of Plays' Summary:
A good pantomime. Its best feature is that it revives the old harlequinade. Apart from that there is good average fooling with Ali Baba's donkey, a principal performer, with the thieves captain as a special constable and so on. there is nothing offensive int he dialogue and the songs are all harmless. Recommended for Licence. G. S. Street [added in ink below] Jan 6 1919. Some additional songs have come in and though one or two are vulgar they can be passed.
Researcher's Summary:
This play was anonymously submitted for licence. However the book of words submitted proclaimed it as 'Francis Laidler's 17th Bradford Pantomime'. Francis Laidler was a prolific pantomime producer and writer and likely therefore wrote this one.
