Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is a simple minded war-play. Its hero is an English officer married to a foreign danseuse, whom he believes to be dead, but who crops up again when he is paying attentions to a nobleman's daughter. The danseuse is now the accomplice of a Dutch banker a German spy, and between them they nearly succeed in robbing the hero of some plans of Liege, which he has in his possession. They are defeated, however, by the aid of a loyal waiter, whom we subsequently meet in the trench elsewhere he saves the hero's life. These more or less realistic military adventures are followed by a sensational episode which winds up the melodrama with an attempt of the spies to wreck an English troop-train, and with the gallantry of the English officer and his aristocratic sweetheart in preventing the disaster. In the course of the struggle the danseuse spy is killed, so the hero is left free to win the reward for his brave but unlikely doings 'for the flat'. Raw but inoffensive and recommended for licence Ernest A. Bendall.
