Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

Of this simple-minded domestic drama the protagonists are Jack, a breezy honest fisherman, and Stephen his smug wicked brother, who seduces his betrothed wife and makes her an accomplice in a theft of which he accuses Jack. The varying struggle between artful villainy and ingenuous virtue is kept up with spirit and with fair plausibility for a couple of acts, until, in a third, Stephen adds a public to a private crime in his effort to help a German submarine by the aid of wireless telegraphy. In this Jack tackles his unscrupulous family far more successfully than he did in his more personal iniquities; and some exciting passages show how he makes the spy pay the penalty of his dastardly attempt, and how chivalry gains it’s just reward.
