Examiner of Plays' Summary:

The 'Australian wife' is Tess, daughter of the sheriff of Ricky Glen, sought in marriage by 'the growler' who is the villain of this crude domestic melodrama. The hero is Jack, an English settler, whom Tess saves from the jealous attack of the growler and whom she subsequently marries. Eight years afterwards she is still pursued by the revengeful fury of the villain, who finds an accomplice in Jack's unhappy half-sister Olive, his former mistress. Between the pair of rogues contrive to make Tess doubt her husband's fidelity, whereupon he joins the Australian army and sails for Europe. During his absence the villain renews his attentions to Tess, who, however, discovers her mistake about her husband and follows him to England where he lies recovering from the wounds receive by him in France, and where a happy ending of the ingenuous backwoods romance is soon reached.
