Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

The scene is an officers' mess room and the 'comedian' is a lieutenant's batman. He writes a letter reflecting on the major's temper etc. and the major picks it up and thinks it is written by the lieutenant, who is engaged to his daughter, and is furiously angry until the matter is explained. Exception might be taken to the rubbish in regard to the military discipline, as the batman is continually checking the officers. But the things is such a humble trifle, containing nothing offensive otherwise or suggestive, that I think it would be excessive rigour to forbid it. Unpublished songs must be sent. Recommended for licence. G. S. Street. A list of songs, published, has been sent, June 28th 1918
