Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is another of the many spy-plays of the moment. It shows how a German governess so manipulates prismatic lights at her employer's house on the South Coast that for a while she appears responsible for the sinking of H.M.S 'Formidable'. This gives her much distress, as she is a spy against her will, and under the compulsion of an uncle, who threatens death to her mother unless his orders are obeyed. A sympathetic turn is therefore given to the drama in the wretched heroine's relief when she finds that, as a matter of fact, the ship was struck half an hour before her signal was given. The 'Formidable' name should be changed to one which does not figure in the Navy list of any recent date'. Recommended for license. Ernest A. Bendall.
