Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This 'episode lyrique' is a simple patriotic effort. The scene is in Alsace in August 1914. Marcelle is the granddaughter of old Pierre Colmar, who fought in 1870. Inspired by distant firing Pierre harangues the villagers and goes off to fight for France. Enter a German officer who proposes to carry of Marcelle. She struggles with him and in rushes her lover Roger, a French officer, who shoots the German officer and embraces his love. Poor old Pierre returns wounded and dies, resolute and patriotic to the last. It is all rather naive, but with a sure appeal. Recommended for licence. G. S. Street.
