Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This production is designed mainly to celebrate Alsace and Lorraine and their reunion with France. The first tableau shows the reception of Pouget de Lisle by the Mayor of Strasbourg in 1792 and his singing of the Marseillaise. There is then recited a poem on the same subject. After that an officer and an Alsacian maiden recite alternately verses in praise of Alsace a passing homage is offered to Verdun and then the Allies greet Alsace and Lorraine with appropriate verses. Some people might think all this premature, but it is at least is sincere and spirited. Recommended for Licence. G. S. Street
