Dawn
Examiner of Plays' Summary:
This is a quite well-written sketch of studio life in Chelsea, where are set forth the different impulses and aims which drive two young artists to give up their painting and join the army. There is introduced without much dramatic affect an old Chelsea pensioner who when about to sit as a model for a military figure is suddenly discovered to be the long-lost father of one of the students. The talk is much better than the plot: and the patriotic sentiment of the little piece as a whole is thoroughly sound. Recommended for Licence. Ernest A. Bendall
Researcher's Summary:
No evidence has been found of a performance of H. K. Ainsworth's 'Dawn' at the YMCA, Tottenham Court Road, London on 18 April 1918 or at any other place or time. One reason may be the late issue of the licence, on 18 April 1918 itself. Or the performance may have been of a amateur nature (see under H. K. Ainsworth) that was not noted by newspapers.
