Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

A rather quaint and fresh imitation of the conventional revue, with its characters allotted to the dramatis personae of pantomime. Thus the clown figures as a government official in some munition department, with columbine as would be employee and the jealous harlequin as a pretended German spy. Places are also found for the policeman and pantaloons. After some simple-minded fun of this order the whole party accompanied by Liz of Lambeth and Lady Vere wife of Admiral Ben Beau embark on the ‘Timbuktu’ for the Congo. The scene of the little piece is rather loose and aimless and its cast is apparently intended to be an amateur one. There is no impropriety in any of its pointless dialogue, songs, or business. Recommended for license. Ernest A. Bendall.
