Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is a skit, and a very amusing one, upon ‘three weeks’. It adds a new thread to the plot, in the secret substitution for the amorous queen of a plotter named Impikoff, who fools everyone in the royal villa except the mysterious minion Dmitry. This arrangement gives a quaint turn to the awkward wooing of the English lover, who is turned into a very ‘cheap’ outsider, and to the brutish jealousy of the debauched King of Croatia. The original ‘business is funnily parodied, and the dialogue is smart in its topical allusions’. A harmless joke at the expenses of a neurotic romance, which almost burlesques itself.
