Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is a revue of the scrappy order, with no pretence of plot for linking together its miscellaneous scenes of burlesque love-making at the seaside, of racing and of football, of restaurant-feeding under the food-restrictions. To these there are added some mild episodes of tourists’ life in Paris, a skit upon spy-hunting, a travesty of the doings of a ‘wazir’ in Baghdad, a la ‘chu-chin-chow’ and some characteristic doings outside a night-club in Nice. There is also introduced a dress-parade, some ballets, and many musical numbers, both old and new. The fun is all on a cheap and rather pantomimic order; but there is no offense in any of it except the line ‘three cheers for the little difference!’ (p12), in reply to the statement ‘there is very little difference between a man and a woman’. The age of this witticism cannot save it from condemnation, and it must come out. Recommended for license. Ernest A. Bendall.
