Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is a revue written with a special object for a special occasion, this object being the recognition and furtherance of the sympathy between our gallant Canadian cousins and ourselves. As might be expected the piece is somewhat loose in construction, though quite firm in patriotic purpose. It begins with the introduction at the Ritz-Carlton hotel of some British trippers to the Canadian charmers and cocktails whose acquaintance they have crossed the Atlantic to make. After this has been effected in song and dance the travellers pass on to a perfumery store where they fall to the seductions of the local powder-puff girls, and whence they start by the C.P.R for the less sophisticated attractions of the Canadian damsels further west, who when they are not harvesting are dancing with cowboys in log cabins. Finally in Victoria they discover the bountiful delights and hospitalities of British Columbia, and admire their celebration in an elaborate maple leaf ballet. Alike in its taste and its incidental humours the piece is well-suited to its purpose, and it is cordially recommended for license Ernest. A. Bendall
