Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

Rather a bitter little satire on the ups and downs of the war and the regulations respecting officers in London. Major Ethrington comes home on leave to find his wife, an actress, pleading with Mr Crump, a plumber to mend the cistern, in vain. He is then questioned by a ‘lady PC’ about not being in uniform, and discovers that he cannot take his wife out to supper. Crump, the plumber on the contrary, is giving a supper party and invites her to it. It is quite legitimate satire in its farcical way and in my opinion rather to the point, thought of course the regular-are wise for young soldiers. Recommended for license. G. S. Street
