Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is an altered version of a piece already licensed under another title. It tells in a rough and ready fashion the old story of the sculptor whose statue of a goddess comes to life, to fall in love with her creator and thus to rouse the frantic jealousy of the unsympathetic wife. In a casual kind of way the trio go off to the seaside where some misunderstandings are worked up by a pair of comic servants and where the lightly draped goddess finds herself quite at home with girls dressed for a bathe. Care must be taken that these bathing costumes, and also those of the sculptor's models in the opening scene, are adequate for the purposes of propriety. For the rest there is no objection, though there cannot be much welcome, to this very vulgarized version of "Pygmalion and Galatea"; but the words of all the songs to be introduced must be forwarded for consideration. Recommended for Licence.
