Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

A childishly silly affair without any intention of suggestiveness. It has a rambling plot, which begins in a girls' school with an orphan wooed by a sailor, a discharged gardener in love with her adopting various disguises and a scene of an idiotic inspector of asylums thinking he is in one, goes on to a scene in the corridor outside the dormitories with the gardner disguised as a new girl - speculation as to where he shall sleep happily lead to nothing - and subsequently arrested as a burglar by the sailor; and ends in a ball-room scene where the orphan is declared an heiress. I hardly think a caution is necessary in the corridor scene. The girls appear in pyjamas but that is all. It would be invidious, I think, to forbid the naval officer hero to be in uniform as he is not meant to be ridiculous and service uniforms are so common on the stage. The new songs are given and harmless. The published ones seem to be by well known firms and I do not think it can be necessary to send for them. Recommended for License. G. S. Street
