Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is a Pantomime brought very much up to date in its burlesque handling of the legend of the Babes, the Wicked Uncle, and their good friends Robin Hood and Maid Marian. Thus the ruffians hired by the Bold Bad Baron to murder them are turned into Bailiffs; in possession of the bankrupt baronial hall, while the blood-money for their crime is to be handed over to them at a Slate-Club supper. This latter variation affords opportunity for a riotous burlesque of restaurant amenities, and for some doings much more sophisticated than any which we are accustomed to associated with the Babes in their leafy hiding place. There is however no offence in the melange except a coarse joke in act II, scene I as marked on p18, which must be deleted. The words to all songs to be introduced must be forwarded for consideration. Recommended for Licence. E. A. Bendall. Songs forwarded and approved. E A B 15/12/16 [In red] The coarse joke to come out.
