Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

[...] This is a dialogue between a quick change artiste and her dresser [...] Recommended for Licence. Ernest A. Bendall [...]

Researcher's Summary:

The sketch is shown as licensed on 13 December 1916, which was eleven months before the first mention of the authors, The Lornells, a musical and vocal act billed as ‘Laurie and Nellie Lornell’, that has been found in newspapers in the British Newspaper Archive, and at a time when the Reno Quartet, of which Nellie (real surname Dyson) had been a member, was still active. Advertisements and reports that mention The Lornells rarely identify individual items in their act although, according to the Mansfield Reporter, 23 November 1917, ‘Their songs included “God send you back to me” and “Ten ditry [sic] little Fingers”’. So if they performed Quick Change - March of the Allies it may not have been specifically mentioned.
