Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is a good pantomime in the sense that it is written throughout in a child like way and is free from grown-up vulgarities. Dame Trot had adopted Margery who is the rightful owner of the wicked Squire's estates and so the Squire wants to marry her but she is true to her lover Jack. The papers proving Margery's rights are stolen by the squire but the magic goose sent by the good fairy to lay the golden eggs and relieve the Dame's poverty finds them and brings them to the court at the right moment. Many of the scenes are of course simply spectacular. A note states 'this Book is subject to alterations, omissions and additions and since we have this frank admission I suppose the management should be told that any material addition must be sent in. The songs must be sent in. Recommended for Licence. G. S. Street. Songs sent in may pass through one 'On the Dark Nights' is very vulgar, however I do not think it matters.
