Taking the Captain’s Place
Examiner of Plays' Summary:
A farcical musical duologue between the Bosun’s mate and the captain’s newly-married second wife on board a man-of-war, where she has been confided to the charge of the mate in her husband’s absence. The mate makes the captain out to have been a very gay dog and improves the occasion with a brisk flirtation with the lady whom he describes as a ‘wicer’, and to whom he sings ditties about many things including German submarines. The humour is mostly vulgar; but excepting one coarse passage as marked p.p.9 and 10 for deletion, it may be passed. Ernest A. Bendall.
