War's Sacrifices
Examiner of Plays' Summary:
A Yiddish drama of the War. Its interest is praiseworthy patriotic as well as domestic, for it deals with the self-sacrifice of a young Jew, who leaves his sweetheart that he may fight the enemies of England. His reward for this is his safe return for a happy marriage. Another thread of the simple story is supplied in the enlistment of another Jew, who is broken-hearted because the worthless husband whom his fiancée has believed to be dead, turns up in time to prevent the marriage In his distress the young fellow joins the Army, and after being reported dead, returns as a hero who, though blind, is still beloved by the youthful widow, now freed by an accident from the obstacle to their union for the rest of their devoted lives. This quaint, primitive, and wholesome play is recommended for license, Ernest A. Bendall
Researcher's Summary:
The play may well have been performed at the New Lyric, Mile End in November 1916 but there is no evidence. Fanny Waxman's company did a different play here every night in a 2-3 week run and may have performed 'War's Sacrifices'.
