Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

[...] The lady whose drama, "The Return of John Willie", is on the eve of the production, hears that her leading lady has been taken suddenly ill. In the nick of time there turns up at her house an actor whom, in burlesque fashion, she promptly engages to fill the vacant part, that of the mother of her hero; and a rehearsal follows, the authoress playing the part of the son. There is no harm in the feeble fun; but care must be taken to avoid impropriety in the "comedy business of Gent getting to Lady's clothes" as marked (p.2). Recommended for license. Ernest A. Bendall.
