Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

A sketch for the Drury Lane revue. It is an absurd little fantasy. Jack invents a chair which sends to sleep anyone sitting on it when a button is pressed. By persuading his wife to sit in it he manages to go on a spree himself. On the occasion of the play his friend Willie wakes her up. Then she hears that her husband is flirting with the wife on an Italian. The latter comes vowing vengeance against Jack. Jack persuades him to sit in the chair and sends him to sleep; his wife Betty, by touching the sleeper, is sent to sleep too; her mother touches her and goes off; and so does a friend whom Jack pushes against the mother; and finally Jack himself, going to take his pocket book from the Italian, is sent to sleep too, so that all the characters are left sleeping. It is quite harmless fooling. G. S. Street.
