Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This little piece, defined as a 'revusical comedy', is constructed as a framework for coon dances, ragtime songs and darkey specialities generally. The notion is that the directors of a Consolidated Variety Company, finding business bad, determine to seek fresh attractions abroad. To this end they depart on a visit to an American Cotton Plantation, whence they bring back in a Pulman car the novel entertainers and entertainment which they require. In London the nigger artists disconsolately reproduce for themselves the Ju Ju Bush of their Native Land, and have an interview with an African-witch-doctor, or rather with his ghost. The medley of fun seems childishly innocent, as are also, presumably, the coon specialities to be introduced. Any new songs, however, which are to be included must be forwarded for approval. Recommended for Licence. Ernest A. Bendall. Songs now forwarded and passed. E.A.B 11 November 1916
