Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This is a revised version of the piece of the same name already licensed last year. It is a noisy bustling very American revue, with very little plot except the departure of the dramatis personae from the Palm Court of the Hotel Magnificent New York, to a divorce-made-easy western city called Reno. The party on board the train includes not only husbands and wives proposing separation on futile grounds, but an eloping couple, in trouble over the loss of their marriage-license and over the assumption of their fellow-travellers that they are really on their honeymoon. Much of the fun, which is harmless and tasteless, takes place in the corridor of the sleeping-car on the train. But the stage-direction p. 24 "The chorus have been undressing behind the curtains of the sections, and now have an undressing number" suggests business which must be carefully kept within the bounds of decency. For the rest the additions of song and cross-talk proposed are inoffensive and the piece is Recommended for License. Ernest A.Bendall.
