Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This appears both typed and hand-written.This is a new version of the revue called "Pinch Me" which I read in January. It has practically the same plot, a sort of parody of Faust. An old poster-painter is made young and the posters brought to life on the condition that they all remain chaste and faithful for a year: if they fail they are to return to the poster state. Then there is a slave market scene in Egypt, and the end comes in Holland when in spite of appearances the posters have all remained good and so Mephisto is sold. The differences are (1) That the business of a phial turning water red to test virtue is omitted and (2) we have a familiar board-ship scene. The dialogue is less suggestive than before and does not call for notice. But, as before, there is scope for offensiveness in the matter of dress in the slave-market scene, as to which I recommended a strong caution. Perhaps that might be repeated.
