Examiner of Plays' Summary:

A dismal melodrama. The villain thought he had trapped the heroine into a sham marriage, but his idiot servant - he is called an idiot but seems to be as sane as anybody in the play - who was devoted to the heroine, had arranged for it to be legal, and by disclosing this at the moment when the villain is about to marry his cousin prevents the nuptials. So the heroine and villain live together and he bullies her dreadfully and finally plans her murder, but is frustrated once more by the idiot servant who kills him instead. The villainess accuses the heroine of this deed, but happily there was a witness to corroborate the idiot who is led away happy in the knowledge that the heroine will now marry the honest man who really loved her. Some of the comic relief is vulgar, but not beyond bounds and the piece is Recommended for Licence. G. S. Street
