Great War Theatre

Examiner of Plays' Summary:

This revised version of the comedy production includes many familiar features, together with many fresh ones. It begins as usual with a Great White Sale and some obvious jokes about ladies' shopping at sale-time. Thence it proceeds to the humours of film-taking for the cinema, with the inevitable charlie Chaplin; to a burlesque or 'cod-drama' of love, jealousy and revenge; to pierrot-land; to a stage-door where an author is alternately flattered and condoled with upon the result of his premiere and to a restaurant where the food is cheap and nasty and the waiter impudent. There are interludes of female impersonation a la Fred Emney, as well as of song and dance. There is no harm in any of the inconsequent drollery; and most of the ditties appear to have already been published. Any however, which are new must be forwarded for approval.
