Great War Theatre

Sara Jeannette Duncan was born on 22 December 1861. She was a Canadian author and journalist who published under a number of names, including as Mrs Everard Cotes. She trained as a teacher then published poetry before writing as a travel writer for The Globe. She wrote for the Washington Post where she was put in charge of the literature section. She married an Anglo-Indian civil servant and began to divide her time between India and England. Duncan later wrote fiction. She wrote 22 works of fiction which were met with mixed critical acclaim. She died in Ashtead, Surrey of chronic lung disease. Her husband outlived her and remarried, fathering two children before dying in 1944.
