The 1939 Register, viewed on Ancestry.co.uk, lists Margaret E. M. Young, born 17 July 1861, unmarried, a ‘writer – retired’, a patient living in a nursing home at 73-74 Royal Parade, Eastbourne. The only likely death registered is that of Margaret E Young aged 81 at Tonbridge, Kent in October-December 1942. M. E. M. Young also wrote a short story 'A War Pilgrimage 'that was first published in 'The Month' and then reprinted in 'Collected Publications of the Catholic Truth Society', vol. 108, (1917); the plays 'An Alabaster Box' (published in 1927 and performed in 1929) and 'The Higher Court' (performed in 1920 and published in 1931); and a volume entitled 'The New J.L. and Other Stories' (1931). At the date of writing these works are catalogued under the name 'Margaret E. M. M. Young', by the British Library, the National Libraries of Scotland and Wales and the Bodleian Library, Oxford. The play 'From Louvain' was published in a special Russian number that formed the July 1916 issue of 'The Woman at Home and Girls' Realm'. The Cheltenham Onlooker noted that in the play 'the cruelty of the military disposition of the Hun is characteristically portrayed’ (24 June 1916; also in the North Devon Journal, 29 June 1916; and The Northern Whig, 10 July 1916).
