Harris was usually referred to as ‘Clifford Harris’ but ‘F. Clifford Harris’ was also used, e.g. in connection with ‘The Maid of the Mountains’ for which he and ‘Valentine’ co-wrote the lyrics (The Stage, 15 February 1917, and The Era, 2 May 1917). Clifford Harris, Arthur Valentine and Jas. W. Tate had previously advertised that they ‘wish it to be known that they can accept Commissions to write Songs, Sketches, Revues, Pantomimes, or any old thing’ (The Stage, 18 November 1915). The 1939 Register shows Frank C Harris, born 20 May 1875, married but no wife is shown, occupation ‘lyric author’, living at 39 Winchester Avenue, Willesden with several other people including two who were incapacitated and a retired jeweller. The death of Frank C. Harris aged 74 was registered at Hampstead in October-December 1949. The National Probate Calendar records that Frank Clifford Harris of 14 Aldred Road, Hampstead, London NW6 died on 7 October 1949 and that Administration with will was granted at London on 12 September 1950 to Gladys Isobel Harris, widow (effects ₤95).
