Great War Theatre

James Wright is shown in the Great War Theatre database as the co-author of Married Midst Shot and Shell which was also staged as The Bride of the Battlefield. However, advertisements for the play habitually name the author as John E. Strange alone. Wright's involvement with the play seems to have been as co-producer. It was toured by a company under 'Stanley Ravenscroft and J. Wright'; two advertisements specifically call the latter 'James Wright' (Hartlepool Northern Daily Mail, 3 June 1916, and The Stage, 8 June 1916). Wright also acted: he played the Rev. Mr. Pemberton in The Bride of the Battlefield at the Palace, Glossop in the week beginning 13 September 1915 (The Stage, 16 September 1915).
