It is likely that this is Captain Ralph Whitney Mockridge, born 1st July 1886 in Chicago, USA. The son of Whitney Mockridge, a well-known performer/concert tenor, and Louise Mockridge an accompanist. Ralph Whitney Mockridge had strong connections to entertainment and the theatre through his parents and would have travelled extensively. He was schooled at Colet Court in London, before moving to Höhere Privatschule Hansa-Gildemeister in Hanover, and then later Columbia University USA. After completing his education he continued to travel and worked as a teacher/tutor, and also as a writer. In the years leading up to the First World War he had at least four songs published, and is the likely author of the play ‘Remember Louvain’. On returning to Britain Mockridge joined the 9th Battalion Devonshire Regiment becoming a Captain and Company Commander within the ranks.
