Dreda Boyd's full name was Etheldreda Holstein Boyd. Her birth was registered in 1879 and her death aged 96 was registered in 1975. She lived 24 Fleurs Avenue, Glasgow from at the latest 1928 until 1957, and at 164 Maxwell Drive, Glasgow from 1958 until at least 1962. From 1908 until at least 1939 she was a leading light (including acting as secretary) in the Provand’s Lordship Club which was set up to preserve the house known as Provand’s Lordship, one of the two oldest houses in Glasgow. For social events at the Provand’s Lordship Club she wrote a sketch 'A Queen’s Device' in 1912; and a play in four acts 'Lady Margaret Drummond' in 1913, dealing with the tragic story of that lady, who was the victim of political intrigue and jealousy. She contributed to SMT Magazine (‘Scotland’s popular monthly journal for all who travel by road or rail’) articles on ‘Glasgow: St Mungo’s City’ and ‘Ayont the Pentlands’ in 1930 and ‘Beyond St Mungo’s City’ in 1933. In 1938 she was a director of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She appears in a photograph in The Graphic, 28 November 1908 and made several radio broadcasts in the 1920s on such topics as 'Mary, Queen of Scots in France', 'Old Glasgow', 'A Tourist’s Steps – In and Out of Paris' and 'A Dinner Party at the Saracen’s Head'.
