Ada Abbott
Ada Grace Abbott was born Ada Grace Yabsley; her birth was registered at Portsea in January-March 1875. She married Ernest Richard Abbott; their marriage was registered at Portsea in January-March 1894. The 1901 census return, taken on Sunday/Monday 31 March/1 April, shows that Ada G Abbott, aged 26 and born in Portsmouth, an actress, her husband Ernest R. Abbott, aged 34 and born in Lewisham, London, a theatrical manager, and (presumably) their son Ernest H Abbott, aged eleven(?) months and born in Plymouth, were boarders in the household of Maria Davenport, a lodging house keeper, at 8 Chester Street, Bradford (where the Abbotts were performing from Monday 1 April). In the week leading up to the 1911 census, taken on the night of Sunday/Monday 2/3 April, Ernest R. Abbott’s company, including Ada Abbott, was appearing in The Sins Of The Rich at the Theatre Royal, Darlington. In the following week they were performing at the Gaiety Theatre, Leith, so they would have been in Scotland for the 1911 census. The death of Ernest R Abbott aged 70 was registered at Lambeth in October-December 1936. The death of Ada G Abbott aged 68 was registered at Wandsworth in April-June 1943.
