Glenda V. M. Graham
Glenda Victoria Maud Graham was born in Bombay, India on 10th October 1897. Her parents were Sir John Frederick Noble Graham and Lady Irene Maude Graham. Her father was a merchant in the East India Company. They owned Airth Castle near Falkirk in Scotland but also lived in Chelsea London. She married Hugh “Tony” Spooner on 8 June 1934 but he died in a plane accident in Egypt on 15 March 1935. They had no children she adopted her husband’s niece Vivien McIrvine (née Spooner). Graham worked in Fleet Street as an advertising representative for Great Eight and then as advertising manager and director of Popular Flying. She supported votes for women. Her main interest was in horse rescue. She wrote technical books about horses and riding and also novels featuring horses as the main characters. Her novel, 'Victoria Glencairn', is said to be semi-autobiographical. She died in April 1981 aged 84.
