He was an actor and marred Lillian Rainbow (stage name Herries) in 1916’. The 1911 census shows Vincent W. Carlyle, aged 34 and a widower, an actor, born in San Ajaccio but of Scottish nationality, a visitor (as was Lillian Herries, aged 23, unmarried, an actress) at an address in Holbeck, Leeds. The marriage of Vincent W. Carlyle and Lillian B. Rainbow was registered at Chesterfield in October-December 1916. A summary record on Ancestry.co.uk shows that LCpl. Vincent William Carlyle, born 1877, was discharged from the King’s Royal Rifles on 16 July 1917 on grounds of disability.
