Henrietta Schrier
Henrietta Martha Schrier was born in 1883 in Barking, Essex and she married Francis Courtney Powell in October 1900 at Camberwell. The 1911 census return shows her as Henrietta Percy, aged 27, working as a theatre actress. At this point, she is boarding with John Lodge Percy, aged 32 and born in Yorks, who was a ‘theatrical proprietor’ and ‘Principal of Theatrical Company’. Both were boarders in the household of Harry Long, a trainer and breaker of horses, in Bilston, Staffordshire. The return shows that Henrietta had been married for eight years and had had no children. It is unlikely that Henrietta and Lodge Percy – the co-author with Henrietta of several plays - were legally married to each other. Henrietta died, aged 55, on Tuesday 28 February 2939 and her death was reported in The Stage two days later: ‘Henrietta Schrier, for many years in management with Lodge Percy, died on Tuesday in the Rochford Hospital, Essex, aged 55’.
